It's been a while since I took to the field on a one-on-one battle (an Apocalypse and team battle aside), and it's been even longer since I came out victorious, but I thought I'd throw down in a 1k Point battle to try out a few tactics that I had in my head.
So here is the list that I took:
2 Squads of 10 Guardians w/Warlock: 10 Guardians with no platform, taking advantage of the bold 'may' in the new Codex regarding taking a weapons platform. Warlocks take Conceal standard, combine this with sticking to some cover, and Eldrad throwing down Stealth for one enemy shooting phase and you have Guardians with a 2+ save which would hopefully make them less of an easy target and give me a chance to get those Catapults in range.
5 Wraithguard in a Wave Serpent: Another solution to getting 12" weapons in range, the Wave Serpent is horrible, but it does feature a Shield weapon that relies on the Dice Gods...
Wraithknight: I thought I'd give this guy another go, make sure he focuses on the vehicles as a priority before going after high value or dangerous targets.
The whole point of this was to make the Eldar harder to kill and to provide multiple dangerous targets to the opponent to prevent too much focused fire.
The battle was set up with the Scouring mission, and unfortunately I was up against an Imperial Guard army with quite a few models and also the high value objectives on his side of the table. I won deployment and elected to go first, I set up, but I was hoping to bait and switch with Eldrads ability. Surprisingly, it worked, and I rolled high enough to redeploy my whole army. But these things balance themselves out, and once again, the Initiative was seized and I lost first turn (which is quite a common occurrence with me).
Next time, I'll go into the battle itself and what I hope to do with the 1k list in the future.
I'm looking forwards to pt2 'cos I don't know which of the two of you won :-)
